Iron Lump

A high quality Black Dye is an extremely difficult substance to make. You must have an excellent Natural Substances skill level, use high quality iron, and high quality tannin to make it in any quantity.

Tannin is made by mixing acorns with water. The tannin quality is capped by the acorn quality, and its quality level determines how likely you are to obtain a black dye closest to the quality of the iron lump you are using. So if you're an expert alchemist trying to create black dye from a 99 quality iron lump using a 25 quality tannin, there is a chance you can get a level 99 black dye (RGB value of 1-1-1), but it is very small.

Unlike white dye, a good black dye will color items black.
