Alternative Search Engines
- Kinsta Blog: Alternative search engine list. Many of these simply delegate to Google after removing your personal information, but some also use a different search engine altogether to avoid the censorship.
A couple I've tried:
- Searx - Accesses a large number of search engines in order to try to find everything. The searches are broken up into categories (Niws, ID, General, Files, etc) and you can try each one to refine your search. Unfortunately, sometimes a failure will break the entire search, for example if one search engine requests a CAPTCA validation or if an HTTP error occurs. It also is a little difficult to use if you don't know which category your search fits into.
- Swiss Cows - I've just started using this, but so far I like it. It uses Bing for its searches, which filters out less "unapproved content" than Google. They also donate a portion of their ad revenue to certain children's charities, though I haven't looked into this too closely yet.
