Water Navigation
There is a lot of water in the Riddleridge Cluster; in many cases, travel by boat is the only way to reach your destination. Certainly, travel between servers requires a boat. If you're traveling in the natural direction across servers (i.e., west to Riverland from Riddleridge, east to Watercrest from Riddleridge, or vice versa) you do not need to plot a course. Otherwise, a plotted course is necessary.
Taking Shortcuts
Many times it will be faster to sail between two servers in a direction that is different from the natural positioning of the servers.
For example, if you wanted to travel from the Cedarwood Trading Post in southwest Watercrest to Hemingway's Outpost in Northwest Riddleridge, it would take a very long time to sail west and cross the entire Riddleridge server, then turn north and sail once more across the entire expanse of Riddleridge. Instead, you can make the trip in a fraction of the time by plotting a course (See: Travel Between Servers) to Riddleridge and sailing south.
When you "Plot a Course" from your vessel, you will arrive at the destination server on the opposite edge from the server boundary you're leaving. So in the above example, you would leave the southern edge of Watercrest and arrive at the northern edge of Riddleridge.
Navigation Example: Sailing Between the towns of Blooming Ridge and Riddleridge
The shortest travel distance will generally require you to plot a course, since the routes shown here do not follow the natural positioning of the servers. Watercrest is east of Riddleridge, but when you plot the course shown below, it behaves as though it is west of Riddleridge.
This route is good when either:
- You're going from Blooming Ridge or Cast Iron Bay to Riddleridge and the wind is coming from the South or Southwest.
- You're going from Riddleridge to Blooming Ridge or Cast Iron Bay and the wind is coming from the North or Northeast.
Traveling between the Watercrest and Riddleridge servers.
In other wind conditions, the South to Riddleridge or North to Watercrest route is usually better for these destinations. However, with the new Cast Iron Bay canal, it may be more feasible to travel to Cast Iron Bay or Blooming Ridge from the towns of Riddleridge or Bridgeport via the Wolf's Head Passage tunnel in western Riddleridge.
