Organic Foods

People tend to think of Non-GMO and Organic foods as being almost interchangeable; however, there is a huge difference.

While Non-GMO products will not contain a significant number of bioengineered components, the presence of most chemical contaminants is permitted. Organic foods, on the other hand, are held to a much more stringent standard.

While organic foods are recognized to be the best choice for avoiding chemical residues and GMO ingredients, be aware that there are still some allowances made for small quantities of contaminants, as well as the potential inclusion of ingredients for which an organic version is not available.

Organic standards address things like farming techniques, sourced ingredients, use of synthetic chemicals, etc., but there is still the possibility of contamination by preexisting compounds in the environment such as Forever Chemicals.

Indeed, there are a number of organic farms in the vicinity of the February 2024 East Palestine derailment spill of vinyl chloride and other compounds, which was made much worse by the decision to burn the contents of the railroad tank cars. This released even more dangerous chemicals into the air, which likely settled into the surrounding farmlands – chemicals which are not addressed by the organic standards.
