Roads Construction
Here are some standards generally used, or planned to implement, across our servers. These are guidelines, but specific areas may vary.
Lighting
- Lamps bear the name of the road.
- Standard iron lamp posts for most main roads.
- Minor roads and paths might use torches instead of lamps to give a more remote or wilder impression.
- Lights should mark every bend in the road. Staggered lamps should go on the outside corner. If corners are very close together, split the difference.
- If the distance between two corners is not great enough for 2 lamps, place the lamp halfway between the two corners.
- Entrances to tunnels should have a lamp on each side.
| Road Type | Alignment | Max Distance (tiles) | |||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Open/Level | Obscured/Hilly | ||||
| Straight | Diagonal | Straight | Diagonal | ||
| Tunnels (any width) | Staggered | 7 | (not applicable) | ||
| Single Lane | Staggared | 14 | 10 | 7 | 5 |
| Single Lane, Double Diagonal | Staggered | 14 | 10 | 7 | 5 |
| Single Lane, Double Diagonal, with shoulders | Staggered | 20 | 14 | 14 | 10 |
| Double Straight, Double Diagonal1 | Opposite | 20 | 14 | 14 | 10 |
| Double Straight, Triple Diagonal1 | Opposite | 20 | 14 | 14 | 10 |
Another way to put this, and for rough-guessing total lamps needed:
- For 14/10 tile spacing, lamps will be placed about every .056 km.
- For 20/14 tile spacing, lamps will be placed about every .08 km.
1 Shoulders are optional.
